One Health - Circular Health
Now getting more popular, for which I am very grateful, is a focus on the interconnection of animals, people and nature. When one is not healthy, it is hard for the other two to flourish. To start of the new year, the Holistic Actions Empower Hour (Monday Jan 3) hosted world renown Dr. Liza Schneider from New Zealand (so we were truly thinking globally). Originally raised in South Africa with a father working in conservation (read her autobiography including those years in Vet Tales
- https://www.drliza.co.nz/shop/), she opened an integrative practice in New Zealand in 2003. She started the NZ Wildlife Trust, helped get 1200 cats off the streets, is president of the holistic veterinary association in NZ, gives seminars and so much more.
Some of her thinking about One Health Medicine follows. HEALTH stands for Humans - Environment - Animals - Living - Together - Harmoniously. What a grand goal.
Common sense medicine can be practiced by every pet parent and more professionals need to use their common sense.
Her list of integrative modalities included many you know of, and a few you may not that are great for people and animals. NIS - NeuroIntegrativeSystem (I am enthralled with this approach of healing that works with the post central gyrus in the brain); Bowen; Reflexology; Body Talk.
A great analogy she gave is to think of frequently is to think of a car. To run it needs the best fuel (fresh, species appropriate ingredients) and to not be clogged up with waste products (like drugs, chemicals, etc).
There is clear correlation of abuse to animals (even subtle) and domestic abuse in the human family. The more we reach out to educate children about nurturing animals, the more they will nurture people.

GOOD NEWS FROM 2021
I am sure you have read/seen many stories of wild animals returning to their lives as we people retreated to our homes. Good News has a great summary here.
Now, success stories with healing from feeding fresh food.
Jane knew that commercial food was full of chemicals and wanted to feed her very itchy dog fresh food, but she was on a very limited budget and her dog was a big one.
The commercial raw food diets were just too expensive. After doing some research at Holistic Actions website and speaking with me a light bulb went on. She had several family members and a lot of friends who hunted and some of them only wanted the top steaks.
First she asked her family to bring home the heart, stomach, intestines, liver and kidneys rather than leave them in the field. Then she contacted several wild game butchers and was able to get big chunks of meat, and some ground meat, for a small processing fee!
After only one week of feeding big hunks of meat, meaty bones and some left over vegetables (pureed) that would have been discarded, Bobo stopped itching, his dandruff was less by 50% and his teeth were a little cleaner. SUCCESS
Coreen had wanted to feed her cat fresh food for a long time, but he was very picky and mostly wanted dry and sometimes canned food. She heard from me that some cats would eat if the dry food was pulverized (in a coffee or herb grinder) and sprinkled like salt on other foods. Also, reading Anitra Frazier's Natural Cat, she realized she could try all types of real food (cheese, egg, cream, anchovies, etc). Within a month Chewy was living up to his name and chewing on big hunks of
chicken necks (yes, bones and all( and eating a variety of the foods she was eating each week.
Reminder - repeated
Form your health care team NOW. Do not wait till your animals are ill.
Especially with the challenges of even getting to see a conventional or integrative vet, it is important to know who is within a few hours drive of you and become a client before there is a crisis.
