Fun updates
31 year old dog story. There are always individuals who show us what is possible in the universe. They give us hope that what we are doing may be making a great difference. Just because this cat, dog or person lived a great and long life does not mean they broke the code. When you read success stories, be inspired, and see if there are some clues that may help in your life. This is one of
several dogs recently who have lived a long life. Note that few of my repeated suggestions are here – be in nature; exercise a lot; have a loving home to nurture your differing needs; eat a fresh, local sustainable diet!
On the other hand, the cat I reported on earlier who lived to 38 had different lessons for us to learn from. Google Creme Puff for multiple stories. Though fed dry food Jake also fed his cats some unusual treats – like red wine, coffee, bacon, etc. I would not recommend his diet, yet it shows you there is no one right diet – just some make less sense. Most importantly, Jake provided multiple ways for his cats to exercise in and out side, have their minds stimulated and lots of
interaction with him. I think this is really the most important.
Many of the cats that Gail Pope adopted at 16 or older, treated holistically in the Brighthaven sanctuary did live to late 20s and one to 34.
NOW TO ANXIETY
Enough inspiration for your heart – the following are three chances to learn more about resolving anxiety in your dogs and cats.
1. Reactivity/anxiety month is August - NOW. Become a member ($27) of Holistic Actions. This month is reactivity month – anxiety, fears, and how they can even lead to more serious neurological problems like seizures. For your membership you will have access to the two wonderful Monday webinars we have already had, can attend live tonight and on the 28th. And you will have full access to all
the wonderful resources and 5 years of holistic information for a month – longer if you stay a member. First was Sarah Hodgson (her site) speaking on training kittens and puppies to decrease the chance of any reactivity (HA!member) in the future. Then Dr. Ed of Whole Energy Body
Balance (his site) showed how many fears and behavior problems are because of silent pain. His classes teach you how to notice this and resolve it, thus changing the behavior. Tonight (Monday 21), Dr. Sue Wagner, a veterinary neurologist, relative of physicist Nikola Tesla and proponent of energy healing, will speak about brain illnesses and how they may relate to training and anxiety. Finally, on Aug 28, Sarah Hauser will demonstrate how you can use Tellington T Touch to soothe and even
heal anxiety & more.

3. Mark your calendar for the FREE anxiety summit September 18-22 featuring multiple wonderful speakers with a lot of feline information for a change (dogs, too). There is learning for all of us in the summits that thankfully are becoming so popular. This is hosted by Dr. Ed Bassingthwaighte whom I discuss in this newsletter and report – a creator of a very powerful way to resolve anxiety and other health issues.
Over 21 speakers include myself,
Dr. Jeff Feinman who is leading the way to include spirit, and intention to healing everyone
The incredible teacher Dr. Margo Roman - ozone, microbiome, homeopathy and so much more)
Dr. Robert Silver - expert on CBD, herbs and 4 decades of healing animals
Joan Ranquet is a true treasure for all animals on the planet, panel member with me on All
Paws Pet Talk TV, author and teacher of very practical energy healing and communication
approaches that you can learn to do.
New to me is veterinarian Casara Andre who runs a cannabis resource site and has specific interest in PTSD in animals.
Dr. Janet Roark – speaker at veterinary conferences about how to use essential oils
Lisa Spector, musician who worked with Dr. Sue Wagner (HA! speaker) for healing music
Registration is not yet open. I will send a separate email with links at the end of August.
ANXIETY SOLUTIONS
Now, on to a few practical tips and possibly new philosophies about anxiety, fears, reactivity, and behavior in general.
Most if not all behavior problems may have anxiety at their root.
HAVE HOPE. Multiple approaches are successful in completely resolving anxiety without on-going treatments in ways that actually enhance health and well being. Some will recover with one or two treatments and others may need all you can find. Let’s get started. More details on each topic are in the report.
MOST IMPORTANT: Holistically, we see that each individual is born with an energy field (partly genetic) that is sensitive to specific triggers and weaknesses. While there are infinite ways anxiety manifested, the cause is the underlying energy field being out of balance. While you work to soothe the symptoms your animal shows, most of time you must also address the imbalance with energy treatments. Regular readers know this applies to any ailment and it may take patience to achieve
balance. Warning: please do not wait until there are serious problems – start now to build balance. Don’t know how – email me.
Most important is to keep your intention, your thoughts, your emotions positive.
HMDM: Holistic Medical Decision Making is a tool to keep you focused and able to decide on your next steps towards maximizing vitality and balance, and resolving current symptoms in 3 steps you will repeat for life.
Step one is to set a goal.
Step two is to research from multiple sources, with your animals specific symptoms being the most important. Holistic Actions may be one of the most reliable information and support resources.
The context of the problem can help guide you. Diarrhea after overeating, anxiety when people yell, new litter, etc, may provide a direction to try.
Step 3 – pause, review your options, use your intuition (or asking the universe – dowsing, pendulum, AK, etc. ) then implement and carefully record the changes in ALL symptoms, not merely the behavior ones. Evaluate the changes and start the process again.
Because many problems are triggered or worsened by your thinking, and because they can be done “for” your dog or cat, check out ones covered in Past Healthy Animal Newsletters April and May 2023.
Your mind set may be the most important part of your companion having a great quality of life and resolving any symptoms. It may be all that is needed. Check out many recordings of Bernie Siegel, MD and Anitra Frazier, cat maven extraordinaire, on the You tube channels for Holistic Actions and for All Paws Pet Talk TV. Subscribe and watch as we include even more. More and more studies have been done documenting the power of intention. One recently showed that DNA was altered purely by intention. Check out energy healing for you and your animals covered in Past Healthy Animal Newsletters April and May 2023.
Pay attention – notice when you have a negative thought – before going out on a walk, when a storm is brewing, when visitors are coming over – then see how your dog or cat is acting, even before the event. We all know about cats hiding or dogs running away when we are thinking of the veterinary visit (wrong vet if they do not love going there!).
Healing anxieties permanently may need the help of holistic veterinarians, intuitives, trainers, other professional or it may be as simple as changing your mindset or using one of the soothing approaches.
- Homeopathy, chiropractic and osteopathic, Chinese medicine (TCVM) & ayurvedic deeply rebalance the energy field in reliable ways when you are working with a great practitioner. If you do not yet have one (and some work virtually), carefully read these guidelines and follow the steps patiently to become a client right now, before a crisis.
- Communicator/intuitive/remote healer may be useful to identify something you never thought of that triggers the behavior.
- Diet and nutrition, exercise and activity levels, exposure to toxins or household irritants, pre-existing conditions or vulnerabilities common to certain breeds, can play a major role in the development of or appearance of anxieties and behavior problems, and may be needed to maintain permanent health.
- Soothing the symptoms and generally supporting the body while healing is underway may even result in deeper healing. The following are in no particular order as one never knows which will be most useful. To repeat from a prior newsletter because it is so important:
BIG SECRET! Many veterinarians, and I was one of them, make a big mistake to try the treatments during the trigger. Better is to start them a month before you’re anticipating anxiety. When it’s then time to use it for the thunderstorm they’ll be associating the treatment with a good event.
- Silvervine may be the better catnip. A 2017 study showed more cats liked it more.
- Essential Oils (EO) are sold by many companies. Read about storm use from one of my favorite companies.
- Vibrational Essences are totally safe and very effective. Try one of these first
- Rescue Remedy (Bach) or Stress Stopper (Jackson Galaxy). Jackson Galaxy’s site and the site of formulator Dr. Jean Hofve’ site are full of training, behavior soothing and many other essences/solutions to target specific behavior issues. Green Hope Animal Collection. More essence tips were in this newsletter.
- A brief review of experts from a past anxiety summit are summarized here.
- Helping yourself to be calm will definitely help your dogs and cats. Check out Qi Gong in this HA member webinar. Emotional Freedom Technique, Eden Energy Medicine, Tui Na, meditation, yoga are all beneficial.
- Acupressure is always useful. The report gives some of the points from Tall Grass Acu-dog and Acu-cat books.
- Calming music. Lisa Spector and Dr. Sue Wagner created a soothing music tape
- CBD is an excellent help for all types of reactivity.
- Tellington T-Touch is wonderful to train dogs and cats as well as get them grounded in their bodies to be able to lessen fears and learn
Overwhelmed yet? Review the paragraph on HMDM to keep you in perspective.
Never give up hope. Persist.
Try something else and give it long enough.
Partner with the experts.
Most importantly, love every second with your cherished companions, even when they are a pain in the tush!
