I. Healing Stories - Both homeopathy and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCVM) look at the WHOLE. If you go to a practitioner who just does acupuncture or herbs for
“diarrhea”, inquire if they can treat more deeply. Dr. Cheryl Schwartz demonstrates this in her book, Four Paws, Five Directions. A cat with weight loss and diarrhea was not helped with conventional treatments for over a year. He lives near the ocean in a wet basement and seeks heat strongly & the diarrhea began during a cold spell. His tongue and pulse
(have a TCVM veterinarian on your team who does this) indicated too little Qi to keep the digestive organs functioning properly, especially in the cold, damp environment. She prescribed an herbal (not merely for the colon & the diarrhea) combination to warm the cat, tonify the Qi to strengthen the digestive system, and move the energy upwards (opposite the downward diarrhea). The cat completely recovered and did not have to stay on herbs for life. If the cat needed herbs for life, it would
not be a complete rebalancing and other problems may occur. (called palliation)
- Tough as nails, Jake was chasing a ball when he stopped and yelped. He kept playing, then stopped to rub his nose in the dirt. Washing off his nose, Tina noticed the nose and side of his face were swollen and hot, so she gave a dose of homeopathic 30c Apis. Still a bit restless an hour later, though not itchy, he went over to sit in front of the fan, the swelling was larger and he
did not want offered water. She repeated Apis, after shaking the dilution bottle several times. A few minutes later he drank ½ bowl of water, and in 30 minutes the swelling was completely gone. Become a member of Holistic Actions Academy and you will have access to articles on first aid, including the properties and uses of many
of the often needed homeopathic medicines like Apis.
- Most of you have used the Bach Flower combination Rescue Remedy to relieve stress and shock. Totally safe, we all need several bottles of it around. Richard Alport, in Heal Your Cat the Natural Way, gives a lovely example of its possible efficacy. He received a
call at 3 AM from a client whose cat had been hit by a car and was now not moving. “I am on the way and give some rescue remedy every few minutes.” Arriving at the home, the cat ran to meet the vet, who drove back home to bed. You may want to try Stress Stopper, formulated by my dear veterinary friend, Jean Hofve who says it is
Rescue Remedy on steroids.
II. Health Tips - A reader requested how to help recurring ear problems. She realized that the “quick fixes” – conventional or holistic - could resolve the problem temporarily. As life goes on the same problem will recur or a more serious one may appear. The answer is to treat the energy field so that the superficial symptoms resolve and the animal is more active, more emotionally
stable, glowing hair coat, great appetite for a variety of foods, and the symptoms rarely, if ever, return. Read free articles on my site, take the free 101 holistic pet course at Holistic Actions, and schedule an advising call with me to tweak your approaches. Temporarily you can soothe with herbal topicals, flower essences, plants from your yard, natural oils (like coconut), offer Reiki or other energy healing approaches (once you are trained & everyone can do it) daily, use TTouch Anxiety Wrap, oral flower essences, and more for itchy skin and ears. Be willing to tolerate a bit of an ear itchies while more complete energetic healing is happening and be glad that deeper problems are not manifesting.
- Christl asked, “Is there any way to change the mindset of the veterinary field / adoption process that ALL animals MUST be spayed, neutered,
and vaccinated? It's a tragedy and I have watched virtually every single Greyhound die from cancer - it is their Achilles Heel. They also present myriad symptoms such as a reaction to trauma similar to von Willebrand's and auto-immune issues.”
- Changes happen when people step up to advocate, push, show alternatives, and listen to everyone involved. Be patient and take baby steps. Shelters have many constraints and issues that you need to understand. Maybe a shelter would be
willing to not vaccinate for the first few weeks, so the dogs/cats can settle more. Maybe they can be trained in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or Reiki to improve vitality and decrease reactions; to use totally safe flower essence Vaccine Detox or Rebalancer after vaccines are given. A few will learn homeopathy and other ways post op. Get the holistic approaches donated.
- Work with your local shelter to educate the adopters on holistic health approaches – fresh food, great mental & physical exercise, etc. Ask them to attend the Holistic Actions June webinar series on improving the quality of life
for staff and animals at rescues/shelters.
- Greyhounds and rescues are not the only ones dying of cancer. We live in a very toxic world (and a lot is the emotional/spiritual damage) so even when we do what makes the most sense, even young animals get cancer. Even intact males and females get cancer.
- And MORE questions came in on food!! My answer is more about the perspective of feeding cats than specific suggestions of brands.
- Stop thinking "cat food"
– what is a species appropriate diet? Mice, birds, small mammals, fish, etc. Muscles, skin/fur/feathers, organs, and a little bit of pureed/partly digested vegetable/seed mixtures. Fresh killed. Usually a variety. There is no one right answer for people or animals.
- BEAM (Behavior, Energy, Appetite, Mood), Early Warning Signs of Internal Imbalance are the clues to deeper health, so keep a journal to track these as you try different feeding approaches. Understand how to
judge if your kitty is moving towards cure, palliation, and suppression. For free, take lesson two of the 101 course and search the forum for posts on feeding cats and dogs.
- Best to feed some of your own food. If needed, feed a frozen raw or slowly cooked commercial diet. Raw goat's milk. Fermented
broths. If not feeding fresh, buy different brands over time so your cat does not get fixated on one kind (then they go out of business - cat goes on a hunger strike) and so different nutrients and sourcing is fed.
- Behavior solutions were covered in May at Holistic Actions.
- Allecia Maine focused on not “fixing” problems. Rather, stop and breathe with your dog or cat, or horse, listen to what they are telling you. Your calm becomes their calm. Your
breathing can heal behavior problems and even improve health.
- Eva Servais started by reminding us to think of the whole animal’s health. Food – dogs not getting enough tryptophan may be more susceptible to aggression, anxiety, hyperactivity and irritability. Steve Brown – Unlocking the Canine Ancestral diet echoes this, saying it happens in susceptible dogs. High protein diet helps with this. Then other individual dogs thrive on less meat protein. It is up to you to evaluate what is best. Then check the environment for toxins – chemical and emotional. Is there adequate emotional and physical exercise and enrichment? Is the family giving gentle, consistent guidance? When there
are still issues, photonic therapy can help with both behavioral and physical problems. This unit is at 660 mm wavelength and is used at acupuncture sites to balance the entire body. Check her site for a free booklet and points to try. Others on the call had success with iTerraCare and LumaSoothe.
III. Good news - Foundation for Climate Restoration’s makes it easy to sign the pledge to lower CO2 levels back to 300 ppm. Anyone can hear good news by joining the Wednesday calls. Read Peter Fiekowsky’s Climate Restoration – the Only Future That Will Sustain the Human Race (and I say we need to focus on all life, not
just humans.)
- Pachamama Alliance. Words of wisdom on how to relate to all the life we love. “The modern industrialized world has long spun a tale of humans as reigning atop the evolutionary pyramid. Yet, Indigenous worldviews tell a different story—one in which humans are not
masters of the Earth but kin, woven into the intricate web of life.” Many of us do interact with our pets as kin…and not always. This is a great reminder.
- Be inspired. The National Geographic Magazine, April 2025, has reports on 33 visionary changemakers who ARE making our world healthier. Your holistic approaches to pet care are helping, and sharing with others helps too.
- Kindness Ranch provides healing for animals who have been used in laboratory research by rehabilitating dogs and cats in a home-like environment, living with humans in yurts in Wyoming. A friend of mine in Laramie knows them and says they are great. They adopt out when possible, or if not, they remain on the ranch to live out their days in love.
- Search For Common Ground works in the US, too. In the 2024 impact report, you can read more about: the "All We Share" campaign that reached over 11 million people and meaningfully reduced negative perceptions between polarized groups, including 18 universities healing after ruptures & faith leaders leading boldly.
