I. Healing Stories - I met an incredible cat named Joey when visiting a relative in New York. He was so agile and active that he jumped
the garden gate regularly to visit the beach across the street. A friend came in, wondering where he was since the beachgoers were asking for him. A search found him flat out and limp under a bench on the deck. As I began to examine him, I saw an oily spot on his neck. “Oh, I just put on some flea prevention because he was itching the last few days. [Remember – itching does NOT mean fleas.] I only use it 2 or 3 times a year when he is itching. He has never been sick before.” I got some mild dish
detergent and scrubbed the oily spot then rinsed it well. Luckily I had some Rescue Remedy with me (every person needs to have an “emergency” flower essence with them), which I rubbed on his feet, ears and down his back. I did Reiki (again, all of us would be healthier and have healthier pets if we were trained in Reiki, Quantum touch, Reconnective Therapy or other energetic modalities) for 5 minutes. He stood up, shook himself, then walked over to the gate. While he could not jump over the
gate, once I opened it he trotted across the driveway to the beach with good energy. For more on flea treatments, check out Fleas Be Gone kindle book.
- Very early in my homeopathy practice a dachshund being treated for spondylosis (bony accumulation under the spine) by another homeopath moved into my area. This dog could barely walk, nor turn his head
more than 20 degrees to either side. Still happy! Over the next 3 months of repeating the remedy to keep the healing progressing, he showed improvement every week. By the 4th month, his radiograph showed no more bony accumulation and a normal spinal column. He was fine for the next 2 years I was at that practice.
- An 11-year-old dog came to Dr. Fougere after continuing to worsen with conventional treatments for severe
pancreatitis for 10 days. She was now very ill with liver inflammation and bile duct blockage. With rectal Chinese herbs and acupuncture, her appetite returned within 4 days and she was well enough after 7 days to leave the hospital and was completely recovered. As with any treatments that are treating the entire animal’s imbalance, an autoimmune eye symptom which she had for years also resolved. If there had been any of the early warning signs of illness after she recovered, a few months on
Standard Process Canine Liver Support may help. Their whole food based products would be useful to try for any problem, regardless of the main treatment method.

Health Tips - From a November 25 notice from the Maryland Department of Agriculture (1 case reported) and many notices on holistic vet list server is an alert about the recent outbreak in several western states of Equine Herpes Virus (EHV)/ Equine Herpes
Myeloencephalopathy (EHM). Very little can be done conventionally to treat this neurological disease that has airborne transmission. Dr. Ward at Holistic Horse Keeping has had great success treating it over the years with homeopathy and more. TCVM vets are having success with Chinese herbs.
- Each state has different isolation rules. If you
are competing or traveling with your horse in the last 2 months, contact your holistic equine veterinarian or the Department of Agriculture in your state.
- Some states have competition rules now, so double check before driving out to a show.
- Work to maximize the health of your horse, especially if competing.
- Thanksgiving indulging. Many internet comments may scare you into not feeding thanksgiving treats to your dogs or cats. Hopefully everyone
reading this newsletter is already feeding a fresh food diet, or at least supplementing with fresh food.
- If so, your only concern is not to allow them to eat more than they normally would. Maybe have a pretty dog/cat designed platter on the table with a little bit of all they can eat. You know your companion’s limits. Guests are to feed only from that platter.
- You may be feeding raw and it is fine to feed cooked turkey today. If the giblets did not go into the
stuffing, they are super foods.
- Maybe an extra dose of probiotics/fermented foods would be good a few days ahead of time.
- Well, since this newsletter did not make it out before feast day – if your dog did overeat and is struggling, be patient and treat with some fasting, bland diet, flower essences, acupressure, belly massage, lots of loving, homeopathy and of course, call your holistic vet. Do not have one yet – make finding one your Christmas gift to your dog or
cat.
- Do be careful to not allow access to the carcass and bones of any of the cooked meat.
- October at Holistic Actions was about Neurological disease and November was on Cancer. December will be on Quality of Life. Dr. Parker reminded that many breeds have tendencies to neurological illness (degenerative myelopathy, disc disease, etc). Often clients were ready to euthanize a dog having trouble walking, thinking they were in pain and she would point out that the
brain was just not communicating well with the muscles, etc. There was no pain, just an inability to navigate, so holistic approaches could turn them around. Preventatively, she said, when buying a dog or cat, find one with great breed lines, preferably raised naturally. Feeding a fresh food diet has, in her decades of experience, prevented many problems, even in breed susceptible animals. As in most homeopaths’ experience, she found that repeating vaccines and using toxins too often definitely
affected the nervous system. Of course, we all recommend paying close attention to any early clues of energy imbalance (waxy ears, anals, mood changes, etc) and doing our best to maintain health.
- Income tax deductions you may qualify for were a surprise to me. This article states that while the IRS usually considers our companion animals as nondeductible expenses, there are some interesting
exceptions – medical, business or legitimate charity. Also read my article with more details at the Happy Healthy Dog Magazine.
- Medical deductions for dogs who are specifically trained to help with your disabilities.
- If your dog is deemed “ordinary and necessary”, serving
a clear business function – guard dogs for a business, herding dogs, performance dog (if they generate income for your business, even as a social influencer), breeding stock.
- Charity: when you are part of an IRS 501-C-3 organization, out of pocket expenses over $250 (even for fostering). You may also deduct donations of food, money and other supplies.
- Relocation costs for active duty
military personnel could include expenses for shipping and temporary boarding.
- From the channeled book, The Future Human, is an insight on cats (pg 183). I am thinking back to my cats through the years and think this may be accurate. Love to hear your feedback. They said that cats are creating energy lines in our home or in the wild to clear bad vibes. Dogs do it on a different, mostly third dimension frequency. When you are concerned that your cat is
behaving oddly, or worried about doggie dementia, maybe they are merely clearing the house. Pay attention if you do notice this and think of the context – what has been happening recently in your home?
III. Courses and learning - Have you pre-ordered Dr. Jeff Feinman’s wonderful book, Path to Wellness? He is doing fireside chats with different healers for anyone who has pre-ordered. Next is Dec 3 – A Bridge
Across Eternity – about our animals’ transitions out of this body. To pre-order and get many benefits, including a test month of Holistic Actions for $1 (please let me know if you do this and I will gift you a free consult), several great ebooks and access to at least 3 more fireside zoom chats.
- Joan Ranquet is offering a 3 session book club (Dec 2,9,16) based on her new release, Animal Chakra Healing. You merely need to be in her facebook group then register here. Even if you
do not have the book, you will learn how to identify and balance animal (and help yourself, too) chakras.
IV. Good News From Organizations For Health And Sustainability - Most of you will love this organization in the Tetons I just discovered. Earth Fire Institute is amazing so please read
about their commitment to the earth, animals, spirit since 1998. A few things I love about them – rehabilitation center and sanctuary for wildlife who can not be released into the wild, commitment to reconnect people with all that is wild, wildland conservation (1in 5 species of plants and animals face extinction from habitat destruction) including buying land to connect two wildlife areas with a safe corridor (2020), permaculture and global outreach to encourage humanity to live within the
limits of the Earth’s ecosystem.
- The Hunger Project reports that 1.3 million people in 86 epicenters in Africa are now self-reliant, even able to withstand natural disasters. 5,000 women in India are stronger elected leaders (each village has a Panchayati Raj government and the national mandate is that women participate. Before THP, the women did not
speak up, after workshops, the women take the lead). 4.3 million people in Bangladesh, especially youth, were reached. 2.7 people in 82 communities in Mexico are moving towards self-empowerment.
