I. Healing & Fun Stories - 🐈 Staying at a friend’s home and watching her 2 cats for a week, I noticed some plant leaves in the
house. Long-haired cats who go outside (and lots of indoor non-toxic plants) can bring them in, though I never saw any on their fur. As the week progressed, I realized that there were always two of the same type of leaf right outside my bedroom door. Then my husband said when he was sitting in the den, the one day he was there, Laurel walked over to him and deposited 2 leaves beside him. My friend said we totally passed the cat’s test of being good people as she always did this with leaves to
special people. So sweet. While I have seen many cats bring gifts of food to people, I had never seen a cat faithfully and daily bring leaves.
- Clara, a domestic shorthair, was helped so much by fresh food. She was adopted at 9 years old and was obese with very nasty teeth. Her veterinary records said she had had her teeth cleaned every 6 months. She was immediately switched to a raw meat diet including whole chunks that she could sink her teeth into like chicken necks. Her
"bird in a bag" meal consisted of chicken meat, neck, heart, gizzard and liver. With Taurine supplement and Calcium if she was not fed bones for a week or so. Within a few months, she was a healthy weight and her teeth were clean! A year later, at age 11, she would eat the heart with gusto, then pick at the rest. Suspecting that she might be self-medicating, a visit to the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCVM) veterinarian was next. She found a heart murmur and recommended a
cardiology evaluation. They diagnosed her with moderate hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and said it was progressive and fatal. Her guardian, with faith in balancing the energy system, declined medications. She fed young healthy raw hearts of as many different animals as possible, in addition to her diversified raw diet. She was 11 at the time. Clara died at age 23. Her weight and teeth were perfect, and she had no symptoms of HCM.
- Vibrational Essences to the Rescue. One of
my clients had a multi-cat household in which there was a bully cat, Maya, who constantly went after an elderly kitty. This sweet old cat lived on top of the refrigerator to keep away from Maya. We used Ultimate Peacemaker (Peacemaker, Bully, Self-Esteem) solution from Jackson Galaxy Solutions. Within a couple of weeks, Maya stopped being as much of a bully, and the elderly kitty stood up to Maya after jumping down from her high safety spot. The flower essences did not have to be
repeated again and the kitty and Maya never had problems again until her death. Maya also lived happily ever after, passing away at over 20 years of age.
II. Health Tips - 🧘♀️ No time to meditate? Leah D’Ambrosio of SARA (Shelter Animal Reiki Association) spoke on April 28. She covered why 10 minutes (or even less) of focused practice can be better than struggling with longer ones. Our animals are
tuned into our nervous system, so learning to calm using simple practices so we do not broadcast stress (you could also buy my husband’s book The 14 Day Stress Cure). These webinar sessions are for everyone, even if not attuned to Reiki yet. Even the military is using one of these tools to help soldiers in combat zones. Check out the replay here. No time for that – start with taking 30 seconds as you pass a person or animal to focus on them and send love. Pause and touch if possible. During your day, wherever you are, focus and send love while you breathe several times. Join the Let Animals Lead community to get reminders and healing messages.
- Cats and dogs (yes, and people, horses, iguanas...) need species appropriate diets that allow their digestive anatomy and physiology to function fully. The very best for dental health (and overall health) is feeding a raw meaty diet with a lot of variety of proteins, using big chunks of meat and things like chicken necks and backs to really work those jaws. Then you do not
need any other dental care, except to train your companions to LOVE having you look in their mouths once a month or so to monitor the condition. WAIT, you say – I have tried, and my cat, or dog, just will not eat fresh food. It's time to consult with me for many ways to have them eat better. A Holistic Actions speaker said that toothbrushes and toothpastes were not needed, just rub the teeth with your bare fingers after eating. I confirmed this with my dentist, who added that for people, we
do need to floss - cats and dogs have teeth far enough apart to not need that. You do not need to even do that rubbing if feeding a species appropriate diet and following your intuition to keep them healthy overall – though deep energetic healing is sometimes needed. Temporarily, while working towards a great diet and health, you can give cats greenies, per Dr. Jean Hofve. Though the ingredients are not great, they are acceptable for a stopgap.
- Being prepared is important, and the first
step is to maximize the health of each person and animal since that increases resilience and flexibility (mental and physical). Recently, an article reminded me of a few additional tips. The basics you know:
- Train all to love whatever restraints (crates, carriers), car rides, strange people and places, a variety of foods (keep that microbiome flexible and healthy), basic obedience – especially to come when called in different situations.
- Have records accessible with contact
information for personal vets and VEG ERs if in your area, neighbors if you are not at home when evacuation is needed, duplicates of any supplements or medications needed, some back-up food (freeze-dried raw is good for this), brushes, toe nail trimmers, your emergency first aid kit with remedies for fear, trauma, etc. Include photos of the pets. Grab the Healthy Journal, as that will have all the info someone would need to care for your animals, if needed.
- Have a set of emergency ID tags with the numbers of people who do not live in your area, so will have phone and internet access.
- Make sure your friends and family know the animals living with you - keep them updated when changes occur. Periodically, email them your preparedness plan so they know where you may
go.
- Where will you evacuate to? Especially with fires, it may be a different direction than you think. Find hotels that take pets in several places, and if an emergency is pending, make your reservation early so you are not forced to leave your companions somewhere.
- Practice an evacuation, walking through all the steps, paying attention to anything you are missing.
- Remember, there may be behavioral changes after evacuation, so be grateful for your
holistic health care team already in place (do not have one? – Follow the steps in this article or contact me.) and that you are so connected energetically and emotionally that you can use all the healing tools you have been learning here and elsewhere.
- Take an animal communication class, or several, now, and practice
locating your companions.
- Healthy, happy people = healthy, happy animals. Try out this lovely meditation full of cat PURRS!
III. Classes and Learning - 🩺 College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies (CIVT) has courses for both
pet professionals and pet parents. One resource I have just seen is The Integrative Animal Health Collective. These are conversations with a wide range of integrative animal health professionals (non-veterinary) talking about things like what inspired them to become an animal health professional, their interest in
natural therapies, their education, and working life as an integrative animal health professional. You will be inspired and also learn many new ways to help your pets and yourself.
- Give yourself the very best educational and support resource by becoming a member at Holistic Actions! Email me if you want 20% off your first month or year.
- This upcoming summit is the best for healthy people, pets and planets! Animal & Human Awakening Summit: How interspecies connection and communication are key for our collective co-evolution will have
over two dozen animal intuitives, communicators, interspecies workers and me. Sandy Rackowitz, the organizer, says that this summit is emerging from a growing awareness that something both ancient and new is reawakening in how humans relate with animals and the living world — inviting us to listen more deeply, learn and evolve together. The dates are, June 19-27, 2026. I will be sending out separate emails with more information so you can invite your friends to join you in this wonderful
exploration of partnership
- Monthly Reiki Podcast with Kathleen Prasad – for everyone – First Tuesday at Noon PT, so May 5 is the next one. Topic – safety of Reiki.
- And a book I love is a powerful reminder of partnership with each other – Kinship with All Life by J. Allen Boone (can read free
at Archive).
- Q/A with Dr. Feinman and myself the last Friday of every month - 12:30 – 1:30 ET – open to everyone – invite your
friends.
IV. Organizations doing great work - 🐾 Paws of Honor helps service dogs get treatments, be re-homed when they retire, and many challenges that are faced by them. Read some of their stories and
consider funding this group I have followed for decades.
- Search for Common Ground reports: “Every day, people around the world are divided by politics, religion, tribe, or identity. But every day, someone chooses to Love Anyway—to see the person across the divide, not just the label.” Two examples:
- In Sudan, women are influencing peace
talks at the UN by building unlikely alliances.
- In Sri Lanka, youth are mediating tensions before violence escalates.
- Loving anyway is a great way to think about your relationship with a conventional or holistic veterinarian who is not listening to what you want for your animal’s health.
- This wonderful story reminded me of the many times that crowdfunding has made the difference between life and death. It can be done!
