Did you know there was an organ in the body called the Microbiome? There are many different microbiomes located on the skin, in the mouth, the stomach, the small and large intestines and more.
Each has a colony of bacteria and each bacteria has different functions. Microbiome refers to which organisms, their interactions and the environment in which they live.
How important is the microbiome? Super, SUPER, super important.
Thousands of bacteria mean that there is 100 to 150 times more bacterial genes than host genes in the body.
A few things the bacteria do:
- break down foods
- make vitamins and fatty acids
- inhibit bad bacteria
- detoxify
- protect the liver
- help the immune system
- help the brain
- prevent leaky gut
Early humans ate bacteria by fermenting foods. Animals ate bacteria by eating dirt and slight rotten foods. Now our pets often need probiotics to stay healthy.
When the microbiome is not healthy, dysbiosis may occur, especially if your pets are stressed in other ways. Dysbiosis is implicated in almost every disease our pets get, so it is wise to keep that microme healthy.
70% of the body's immune system is in the gut!
Learn how to select probiotics to build a healthy gut and therefore a Healthy pet!!
